Expectations and Course Outline
Teacher: Mrs. Hermanson           Room: 201

Classroom Expectations

Be prepared.
Students are expected to arrive with all their learning materials.
Be present and be prompt.
Students are expected to attend every class and arrive on time.
Be respectful (of people and the equipment).
Students are expected to honour the Esquimalt High School Code of Conduct.  Remember the Golden Rule is that you treat others in the same manner that you wish to be treated.
Do your work.
All keyboarding assignments must be completed in class on a school computer.  All assignments are to include you name, date and title. Some note-taking will also occur in this course.

Required Materials:

You will need a 1” binder or duo tang, a small supply of paper, and a pen or pencil.  You will receive various handouts that are to be placed in your binder

Indicators of success are regular attendance in class, an attempt to complete all assignments in a timely manner, an organized notebook, and a positive attitude towards the subject.

Course Outline

Computer Hardware Basics (a brief overview)

  • Students will be able to describe the main components of the computer and how they work.

Keyboarding

  • Students will develop proper keyboarding skills.  The emphasis is on the touch-typing technique, speed and accuracy.

Microsoft WORD 2007

  • Students will be able to write letters, essays, reports, bibliographies, title pages, and memos using proper formatting.
  • Students will be able to use various features of MS WORD 2007, such as paragraph setting, margin setting, tab placements, column setting, leader lines, short-cuts, copy, paste, add, move, delete, bold, italics, underline, bullets, numbering, change font and size, page numbering, headers and footers, find, replace, spellchecker and thesaurus.
  • Students will be able to construct tables and charts, use clip art and the paint program.
  • Students will to able to properly research information using the Internet.
  • Students will be able to use various features of MS Power Point 2007 and MS Publisher 2007.
  • Students will be introduced to a variety of technology sites including Inspiration, Glogster, Prezi, Go! Animate, etc.
